The Majipreneurs Hackathon was a two-day intensive event in Kampala tailored for aspiring entrepreneurs within the WASH sector. Participants collaborated to shape or refine business solutions to solve specific challenges in the WASH sector, benefiting vulnerable populations.

How to apply?

To apply for the Hackathon, the call for applications ran from February 10th to March 9th. Applicants were required to form a team before submitting their application. When applying, they were asked to clearly identify and specify the particular issue within the WASH sector that their team intends to address, as theese was crucial for the selection proceed. They were also asked to share any previous entrepreneurship or WASH experience they had!

  • The application period ran from February 10th to March 9th.

Selection process

The selection process was overseen by a jury composed of members from the four leading organizations of the Majipreneurs Summit. Applicants were required to apply as a team of 2 to 4 individuals, with team members aged between 18 to 30 years old. Candidates were expected to either have a business idea related to the WASH sector or demonstrate a willingness to work on specific business models within this field. Familiarity with the challenges and issues related to the WASH sector was also considerated essential, along with a high level of motivation.

Candidates were required to be available on April 1st – 2nd, 2025, for the hackathon, and on April 3rd – 4th for the Majipreneurs Summit, which took place in Kampala. The call for applications lasted one month and ended on March 9th. The results of the selection process were announced within 10 days after the closure of the call.

 

Selection criteria

  • Participants applied as team.
  • Participants were between 18 and 30 years old.
  • They had a business idea or were willing to work on specific business models in the WASH sector.
  • They were available from April 1st to 4th,2024 for the hackathon in Kampala and the Majipreneurs Summit.

  • A fast track training in 4 sessions where participants learned the fundamentals of successfully starting a WASH business.
  • A possibility to pitch your ideas to a jury at the Majipreneurs Summit and get the chance to be awarded a prize.

* Financial support for accommodation and transport was provided to entrepreneurs who did not live near the Hackathon location.
